On 29 August 2009 30 teams of 4 will brave a demanding route through some of Scotland’s most stunning natural scenery covering the Cairngorms National Park, Glenmore Forest and Abernethy Forest. Now in it’s third year, this iconic adventure is bigger and better offering three routes to suit differing levels of fitness and capability:

Bronze – 15K hike or 35K off road bike route. Split the challenge with 2 team members biking and 2 hiking
Silver – 15K hike and 35K off road bike route. The full team completes the whole route.
Gold – 20K hike and 60K off road bike route. The full team completes the whole route.

The Cairngorm Challenge starts and finishes from a central Hub situated in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park with a series of “loops” projecting out. This unique feature is great for logistics, supporters and of course the competitors:

The Hike:
The hike element will take participants to the top of this rugged landscape to a height of 1,245m to ‘bag a Munro’, Cairn Gorm one of Scoltand’s sixth highest Munros. The Gold route includes an extra 5K hike round the stunning Loch Morlich.

The Bike:
The bike element of the challenge will take participants from the Hub north through the Queens Forrest and the stunning Abernethy Nature Reserve returning over the high ground through the Ryvoan Pass and Glenmore. Gold participants will head north of the Hub for an extended 25K route before meeting and completing the standard 35K route to make a magnificent 60K bike route in total.
